A fun collection of 21 knits perfect for sprucing up your kitchen decor and adding a little big of homemade luxury to your bathroom.

Bathroom & Kitchen Decor Knitting Pattern

There is nothing quite like adding a smidgen of homemade style to your personal space.  Also, it’s like a double whammy when you create useful items, like dishcloths and napkins, that look great and have a chance to prove their worth.  But don’t get me wrong, sometimes, you just have to have things that look cool.

Featured in the image above, from top right:

Homey Oh My – DIY Knit Potholders

Petals to Picots – Textured Knit Dishcloth

Simple Knit Jutsu – Tako TP Cover

Nemcsok Farms – Hand Knit Cotton Napkins

Lovely Indeed – DIY Rag Knit Bathmat

Pumpkin in Orange – Fox Teacozy

Great for the Kitchen

I love knitting in 100% cotton for the kitchen.  Not only does it wears well and is washable, cotton has come a long way in colors! Knitting with cotton at first can be a bit tricky, as it doesn’t have as much ‘give’ – but it doesn’t take long to adjust.

Knit’s End – Knit Dishcloth in Seed Stitch

Flax & Twine – Arm Knit Chunky Vase

Berlin’s Whimsy – Knit Kitchen Scrubbie

Ravelry – Knit Pan Handle Cover

Knitting and So On – Knit Egg Warmer

I’m Dancing in the Rain – Button-top Ribbed Hand Towel

A fun collection of 21 knits perfect for sprucing up your kitchen decor and adding a little big of homemade luxury to your bathroom.

Hand Knit Heart Shaped Throw Pillow Easy pattern for a DIY valentine gift heart shaped cushion

Heart Shaped Knit Throw Pillow Pattern & Instructions

Looking for a great Valentine gift? DIY this knit throw pillow in an adorable heart shape for your Valentine, as well as for every couch, and comfy chair in your home. I created this super easy hand knit heart pattern last year, and now I’ve used it to make these delightful little pillows.

Hand Knit Heart Shaped Knit Throw Pillow Easy pattern for a DIY valentine gift heart shaped cushion

Heart Shaped Throw Pillow

Using giant needles, and double stranded yarn ( two strands of yarn held together throughout) this knit throw pillow works up really fast.  The increases and decreases handle all of the shaping – and once you’re done, stuff it with your preferred pillow or toy stuffing material. I pretty much always use a polyester fiberfill, or cotton batting, because well, it’s washable. I like to wash things.

Heart Shaped Throw Pillow Assembly Instructions

Hand Knit Heart Shaped Knit Throw Pillow Easy pattern for a DIY valentine gift heart shaped cushion

Place hearts, right sides together, and stitch around the outside of the hearts, leaving a gap ( large enough to fit the stuffing in).  I started about halfway up the side, went around the top and came halfway down the other side.

Turn the shell right side out, and stuff the pillow – not too full, and finished sewing the remainder of the seam.  Weave in any ends.

DIY this knit throw pillow a gazillion times, and in every colour, and add them to every reading nook and child’s room you can find.  Also a great charity project, and stash buster.

Hand Knit Gingerbread Man Pattern perfect for holiday gift giving and decorating this pattern allows you to whip up gingerbread cookies from your yarn stash!

Hand Knit Gingerbread Man Pattern

Gingerbread Man = one part cute, one part sweet, one part kind, and three parts fun!

hand-knit-gingerbread-man

Hand Knit Gingerbread Man

This sweet invention is going be just as popular as your Elf on the Shelf – minus the tattling.  Whether he ends up on the tree as a decoration, in the playroom with the other toys, or hanging from the chandelier, this Hand Knit Gingerbread Man is going to be a welcome addition to your home this holiday season.

About the Hand Knit Gingerbread Man Pattern

I have made this pattern beginner friendly by designing the entire project to be worked flat – that means that you need not get intimidated by those double pointed needles.  Becasue a gingerbread man has so many parts ( who knew, right?) the pattern may seem a bit longer than my usual ones.  Hang in there, and just follow along.  It will all turn out.  And this is a stash buster project!

M1R

M1R ( Make one right) is an invisible increase that slants to the right.  When adding shape to your projects, for example when you want to add width to your project equally on both sides, you would use this along with the M1L increase.  Using this type of increase also ensures that you won’t have any gaps in your knitting, and this can be important depending on what it is you are making, and of course, your preference.  I created a video tutorial for this stitch, and you can see it here:

One leg has been completed, and seam has been sewn – I have the one leg turn inside out in this image, but I would totally sew the seam with the fabric right side out. It won’t make a huge difference in the finished product, and it may just feel easier.

Cut yarn, leaving about 8 “, thread darning needle, and pull the darning needle through the last 4 stitches on the needle, remove them from the knitting needle, Pull tight, and sew up one leg seam.*

Rejoin yarn to the 16 stitches you set aside for the other leg, and work from * to * for the other leg.

One arm has been completed, and the stitches from the last stitch holder have been slipped onto a knitting needle, the yarn is joined again, and the arm is ready to be worked

Cut yarn, leaving about 8 “, thread darning needle, and pull the darning needle through the last 3 stitches on the needle, remove them from the knitting needle, Pull tight, and sew up one leg seam.**

Repeat from ** to ** for the other arm.

Head
