Knit Dishcloth

Dishcloths are great beginner projects because they work up quickly, and provide something useful as the finished product – which in turn can be extremely satisfying to use or to gift.  They also make great projects for advanced knitters, because you can make them up en mass, and stockpile for gift giving.  This pattern is done in a pretty simple broken rib type of pattern, giving it great texture for scrubbing.  The 100% cotton makes it extra friendly as well.

Bamboo Stitch Bath Mat

Yes, I’m still indulging in all of that fabulous cotton yarn out there, and still finding new ways to use it in the house. I have been creating cloth after cloth, and now it’s time to broaden our horizons a little bit and to move on to this luxurious bath mat.

Bath mats being smaller than blankets, yet larger than cloths are a pretty good transition project. This knitting pattern, in particular, allows you to experiment with a new stitch, and still enjoy the satisfaction of finishing a project. Using two strands together, this project is relatively quick to finish, yet challenging enough to enjoy. This is the pattern is going to be first on your list of stitches to experiment with.

Materials

YO = yarn over = Bring the yarn forward between the needles, then back over the top of the right needle, so that it is now in the correct position to knit the next stitch.  This is a way of increasing stitches, and create a hole in the fabric.  They are usually paired with decrease in lace patterns (YO)

Pass 1st st. over = pass first stitch over = This is the corresponding decrease in this pattern, where you will pass the stitch created by the yarn over, over the two stitches that are worked immediately after the yarn over.  Using your left needle, lift the YO over the two stitches you just knit, and off the needle.  (Pass 1st st. over)

Knitted Coffee Cozy Pattern quick and easy DIY, perfect for gifting. Free pattern and beginner friendly. Also suitable for tea

Little Twist Coffee Cup Cozy

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing at all against tea, and these cozies will hug your mug no matter what you have decided to put in it.  Also, these are perhaps the perfect knitted gifts to make for your friends and family.  The cozy is worked in a rib pattern, which gives it the elasticity it needs to stretch over a cup without sagging, and the Little Twist I’ve added to it, adds a little more depth.

Little Twist = worked over two stitches. Slip the first stitch as if to knit, and then knit the next stitch.  Bring your left needle over to the stitch you slipped, and insert your left needle into that stitch, and pass it over the stitch you just knitted.  You’ll have a strand of yarn drawing a slightly twisted arch over the knitted stitch.  Knit that stitch that you just moved back over to the left needle. Bind off.

Cut yarn leaving about a 12” tail, and attach darning needle.

Secure the last stitch, and pur the cast on edge next to the bind off edge, and stitch closed the top 1/2 inch of the seam.

Weave the sewing yarn down through one side of the seam, leaving a nice little gap for the handle of your mug to fit through.
